Magnitude 7.1 earthquake rocks Kermadec Islands in New Zealand

On Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude in New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands region. According to the agency, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km. US Tsunami Warning System said some Kermadec Islands coasts may experience tsunami waves reaching 0.3m to 1m above tide level.
